Madison West High School fields Boy's Volleyball teams at the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman levels. All teams compete in the Big Eight conference. Open tryouts begin in mid-August (per WIAA rules) and the season runs from late August through late October. Home games are played at Madison West's Steven's gym.
Tryout FAQs
Is there anything I should avoid wearing to tryouts?
Yes, club apparel will not be allowed during the 2-day tryout period. We want to ensure an unbiased tryout for every athlete.
How many players will be on each team?
Each team generally will have 12-15 players.
What will tryouts look like?
Tryouts will be held over 2 days broken into two sessions, underclassmen and upperclassmen.
- Underclassmen may be invited to attend the upperclassmen tryouts after their first session if we see potential to join JV or Varsity.
- Tryouts will consist of warm-ups, drills, and scrimmage play.
- We are not only looking for volleyball skills, but we will also evaluate athletes based on sportsmanship, character on and off the court, attitude, leadership, and coachability.
When will I know if I made a team?
Rosters will be sent out to athletes and families after the final tryout session has concluded.
