The JV Gold teams in both the girls and boys programs are privately funded through donations made by the friends and families of the West soccer community. Soccer is an immensely popular sport at West H.S. and the result is that both programs draw in a large number of players each season. A number of years ago the Madison School Board decided to limit funding to only one JV soccer team in each program.
The Friends of West Soccer was created to support the second JV team in order to continue to give more student-athletes the opportunity to play soccer at West. Through the Foundation for Madison Public Schools, the Friends of West Soccer has supported a second JV team for both the boys and girls programs, allowing nearly 300 students to continue playing high school soccer. The cost of maintaining the JV Gold soccer team for one season is around $4,000 and we rely on the generosity of the West soccer community to continue to support both the girls and boys programs.
